Johnny Depp plays Donald Trump in a 50-minute spoof biopic created by Funny or Die.
Johnny Depp has transformed himself into Donald Trump to play the divisive political candidate in a spoof biopic.
The Hollywood actor dons a Trump-style hairpiece to lampoon the presidential hopeful in the 50-minute comedy for Funny or Die alongside a star-studded cast including Alfred Molina, Henry Winkler, Stephen Merchant, and Back to The Future’s Christopher Lloyd.
The satire, titled Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal, is directed by moviemaker Ron Howard, who also narrates the film, and its theme tune was written by Kenny Loggins.
Howard opens the movie by explaining the spoof documentary, set in the 1980s, was ‘rediscovered’ after it was “thought to be lost in the Cybill Shepherd blouse fire of 1989.”
The comedy was filmed back in December, and Funny or Die’s editor-in-chief Owen Burke reveals the cast and crew was sworn to secrecy over the project.
“The plan was to move really fast because we thought Trump would go away, as least as a presidential candidate,” he tells The New York Times. “When he bizarrely didn’t go away, we had a little more time. But that meant keeping the secret for longer…
“We had a few people sign nondisclosures, but mostly we just begged people not to say anything.”
He goes on to describe Depp’s performance as Trump as “absolutely bananas”, adding that the actor had a whole team of assistants to help make his Trump hairstyle as realistic as possible.
“Because we tend to move so fast, we’re usually just slapping wigs on people,” Burke adds. “But Johnny brought, like, a whole team of professionals to help him get into character. Or at least style his hair.”
